Keen to get a feel for the course before race day? Join us for the first of our Crater Rim Ultra Recce Runs and experience one of the most iconic sections of the course.

With lambing season approaching and access restrictions likely to follow, this could be one of your last opportunities before race day to tackle the Diamond Harbour to Mt Herbert section of the 53km course.

Date: Sunday 21 June
Meeting Point: Gebbies Pass / Summit Road Junction (555 Gebbies Pass Road)
Meet Time: 7:25am

Distance: 20km
Elevation Gain: 1,000m
Expected Time: 3–4 hours

We'll meet at Gebbies Pass before squeezing into a few vehicles for a shuttle down to Diamond Harbour, aiming to hit the trail at 8:00am.

Starting from the Diamond Harbour Rugby Clubrooms, we'll climb steadily to the summit of Mt Herbert before traversing the stunning ridgelines and winding switchbacks behind Mt Bradley. With Packhorse Hut in sight, we'll continue through the plantation trails before finishing back at Gebbies Pass.

Please come prepared with your own nutrition and hydration. It's also the perfect opportunity to test your race kit and dial in your race-day setup.

We'll cater for a range of paces, so whether you're entered in the 25th edition of the Crater Rim Ultra, considering signing up, or simply keen for a great day out on the trails, we'd love to have you along. Friends and whānau are welcome too.
