Oktoberfest comes to Lyngby with the cold. The beer halls handle the loud nights with live music, giant steins and dancing, and lederhosen stay optional. Since 1810

Why it is called Oktoberfest when it happens in September

A horse race on a Munich meadow in 1810, watched by a royal couple and a cheering crowd

Munich started it, and Lyngby is one of many cities around the world to have picked it up since. The original Oktoberfest celebrated the October 1810 wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese with a horse race on a meadow named after her. It has since moved forward into late September, when Bavaria's weather gives an outdoor festival a better chance.

Munich's 2026 Wiesn ran from September 19 to October 4.
