- **Event Description**: Rethinking the Upstream Conditions of Human Well-BeingAbout this EventManaging Brokenness. Cultivating Flourishing.Rethinking the Upstream Conditions of Human Well-BeingWe have built an extraordinary capacity to respond when people break. What would it take to build an equally extraordinary capacity to help people flourish? We know more about trauma, mental health, human development, and social problems than ever before. We have more helping professionals, more sophisticated interventions, and more systems designed to respond to human need. Yet many of the problems those systems address remain stubbornly persistent. What if the problem isn't that we don't know enough about brokenness? What if we have been looking too far downstream?Managing Brokenness. Cultivating Flourishing is a two-part training that invites participants to look beneath behavior, diagnosis, and visible social problems to explore the relational conditions in which human beings are formed.Drawing from sociology, trauma research, attachment, human development, and Belonging Systems Theory, the training examines how disruptions in belonging can shape security, identity, expectations, relationships, and the survival strategies people develop. It then applies the sociological imagination to follow those patterns outward—from individuals to relationships, from relationships to communities, and ultimately into organizations and institutions. The goal is not to diminish treatment, intervention, or the helping professions. Their work is indispensable. Instead, the training asks an earlier question: What are the conditions human beings need in order to flourish? Two Parts. One Upstream Journey.Part One — See the Pattern. Reframe the Problem.A 75-minute general overview explores the growth and sophistication of our response systems, persistent social challenges, common upstream conditions, and the possibility that belonging is part of the forgotten architecture of human flourishing.Part Two — Understand the Architecture. Rebuild the Conditions. The deeper dive examines how people are formed, how disruptions of belonging become survival adaptations, how individual patterns can become embedded in systems, and how leaders and helping professionals can become more intentional about cultivating environments where people can be known, protected, connected, rooted, formed, entrusted, and invited into meaningful participation and purpose.Who Is It For?This training is designed for social workers, counselors and therapists, educators, healthcare and child-welfare professionals, nonprofit and human-service leaders, clergy, community-development professionals, juvenile- and criminal-justice professionals, organizational leaders, and others whose work intersects human vulnerability and social systems. If your work often begins when something has already gone wrong, this training is for you. This is not another program to implement. It is an invitation to see the people we serve—and the systems we have built to serve them—differently. We cannot stop managing brokenness. But we must recover the capacity to cultivate belonging—because when belonging is secure, flourishing becomes possible..

With the goal of reconciling families, this rebrand symbolizes our renewed commitment to long-term solutions, addressing the root issues of trauma in order to provide families with the opportunity for healing."
