About the event

Colonial Churches & Their Role in Virginia
Join us for the 2025-26 John D. Owen Jr. History Series of lectures focused on Freedom Forward! This year our lectures mark the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution with a focus on the people, ideas, and events that have moved Lynchburg forward towards fuller freedom since 1776.

Our first lecture shares the story of how Virginia's churches performed many local government functions before the Revolution. It was at church that many of the Founding Fathers acquired their governing skills. Uncover the history of colonial congregations in Virginia and learn more about the unique architecture of these churches.

Free and open to the public, no RSVP required.
