First Day Hikes is a nationwide program from America’s State Parks to encourage hiking (and other outdoor activities) on New Year's Day. In 2026, it also happens to be the first day of the U.S.’s semiquincentennial, or 250th birthday!
Last year, Village Creek State Park was 7th place among all Texas State Parks for FDH participation, with 279 participants hiking over 500 miles! Let's break the top 10 again this year with even more hikers!
Join a Park Ranger for a guided hike, take the trails on your own with scavenger hunt and guided prompts, or blaze your own path and report your mileage at the pavilion. Did we mention you get a sticker for participation!! Let's make this year the biggest First Hike event across the state.
