Talk Highlights:

Building Fault-tolerant Systems at Slack by Paoli Izquierdo: In the fast-paced world of distributed systems, failures are not a matter of "if," but "when." This talk explores how Slack evolved their architecture and culture to embrace fault-tolerance, ensuring our services remain reliable even in the face of unexpected failures. Paoli will share how her team transformed their service discovery infrastructure from a single point of failure into a resilient, highly available system. Finally, she will share Slack's philosophy and processes for incident management, to learn how they leverage incident reviews and a blameless culture to turn every outage into an opportunity for growth and innovation.

Invisible Barriers: Unpacking Microaggressions at Work by Anjulie Haaser and Elisa Ebler: Microaggressions often seem small, but have a significant impact. Interruptions, doubting competence, or a lack of recognition are not exceptions; they are part of everyday life. In this session, we'll discuss typical situations, possible reactions, and their effects. Whether intentional or not, each of us can contribute to creating an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
