Kizaka 2026
KIZAKA INFORMATIONS / from 4 to 18 February 2026
1º PROJECT ORIGINS
Welcome to the 9th Edition of Kizaka Touristic and Cultural Trip to Angola (Viagem Turística Cultural a Angola).
The project “Kizaka - A Viagem da Dança” (Kizaka - The Dance Trip) was born in 2012 from a challenge proposed by lovers of Kizomba and Semba. They wanted to know Angola by doing a dancing itinerary through the roots of those rhythms that have internationally attracted people since 2008. In 2011, the first experimental trip was done with a couple of teachers from Portugal (from the AfroLatin Connection dance school in Porto). Since 2017, we started the first official trip, which inspired other groups to organize similar trips.
In 2018, the Kizaka tour group was invited as the honored group to open the Carnaval de Luanda parade alongside the renowned group União Jovens da Cacimba.
Since then, we have been organizing the project as a cultural tourism trip; however, there was a short stop in 2021 and 2022 due to COVID–19 pandemic.
What does “Kizaka” mean?
Kizaka is a typical side dish from Angolan gastronomy made with leaves of the cassava/yucca tree (Mandioca in Portuguese), which is also named Sacafolha (roughly translated to “takeleaf”).
Kizaka is the name of the project as it is a side dish that can be paired with any other main dish. It reflects the mixture of people that dance for their own amusement and happiness. The exact feeling we have when we finish eating a Chicken Moamba dish with Kizaka.
Who is the Kizaka coordinator?
Mestre Petchú is an Angolan dancer who was a pioneer in the Kizomba movement, the father of Kizomba’s Geometry, the creator of the first teaching methodology of Kizomba, Semba and Tarraxinha. He has been a dancer all his life and participated in several dancing groups like Ballet Tradicional Kilandukilu, even movies and documentaries.

Parties at nightclubs are not included in the price as there are many different parties and they shift over time. So, once there, we will decide as a group which ones to go.
Backyard parties (“Farra de Quintal”) with live bands are also not included in the price as they vary a lot in price and we prefer to be fair and leave it up to you to decide there; thus they are optional for the group. These parties are amazing, some include food as well.

Important note:
