A self-taught musician with a fluid technique and an inventive approach to sound, his music is melodic, hypnotic and trance-inducing with a deep sense of space.Dean has toured the UK and Europe and opened for artists such as Thurston Moore, The Magic Band, Acid Mothers Temple, Michael Chapman, Meg Baird, Michael Hurley, Josephine Foster, Emeralds, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Charalambides and Wolf People. His music has received international radio play and has been acclaimed by the likes of MOJO Magazine, The Wire Magazine, Dusted, Louder than War, Uncut Magazine, Brainwashed and The Quietus.“At any given time, there are always a handful of visionary guitarists who carve out their own compelling and distinctive niche, as well as many more who exhibit virtuosic technique or write consistently great songs. McPhee’s work checks off all three of those boxes, but his greatest moments reach another plane altogether where it feels like he is channeling something much deeper, more timeless, and almost supernatural"(Anthony D'Amico, Brainwashed)“Set within an electric ancestry that includes Michael Karoli’s solos in Can, the hymnal rock of Popol Vuh’s Daniel Fichelscher and the sonic spaciousness of dub, as well as the emotional punch of John Martyn’s dawn-lit Echoplex epic, ‘Small Hours’.” (Frances Morgan, The Quietus)"Definitely one of the leading contemporary guitar stylists in the UK, and in the world"(Steve Barker, BBC ‘On the Wire’)https://deanmcphee.co.uk/https://deanmcphee.bandcamp.com/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRtEOWlS9FwAndy Abbott is an artist, musician and writer with an embedded practice in the North of England. His recent output as ‘Andrew DR Abbott’ centres on instrumental compositions for 12-string and 8-string baritone acoustic guitar. Both his ‘Live on Daisy Hill’ cassette (released by Bloxham Tapes in 2018) and ‘Dead in Chellow Dean’ album (released by Cardinal Fuzz in the UK and Feeding Tube Records in the USA in 2019) use fingerpicked guitar, field recordings and handmade instruments to reflect the darker facets of life in the postindustrial North. In 2020 Andy wrote and recorded the final part of the Daisy Hill trilogy ‘Erewyrehve’ and released this on his own ADRA Recordings imprint on vinyl in 2021. This was followed by a limited lathe cut 10-inch ‘Live from Clover Hill’ e.p released by Sonido Polifonico in 2022, and a contribution to Michael Chapman tribute album released by Tompkins Square Records in 2023.Andy is best known for his deafening guitar work in the leftfield rock bands That Fucking Tank and NOPE with whom he has toured internationally on the DIY underground circuit, as well as mainstream gigs supporting Foals and appearances at Leeds and Reading festivals. With his acoustic he has shared stages with Gwenifer Raymond, Richard Dawson, William Tyler, Dean McPhee, The Horse Loom, Alison Cotton, C Joynes, Nick Jonah Davis, Haress and David Thomas Broughton.“A minor 21st century folk masterpiece … Abbott ignores the comfort of pure folk structures and bluesy scales, twisting his lush folk guitar into something brimming with potent pangs of a serrated kind of poetic discontent.” – The Quietus“This is one of the most beautiful, introspective collections of intricate acoustic guitar music you could ever hope to hear… Abbott conveys an emotive trip with mostly just one instrument, and his unique approach to technique, structure, and musicality all come together to form a powerful narrative. A genuine escape ideal for those in search of hidden gems.” – The Sleeping Shaman“An excellent album of pastoral paintings as Andrew pitches himself as the psych folk Vini Reilly” – Colour Horizon“A wonderful record which is bleak, yet warm and colourful, sad yet joyful … like the area that inspired the music. Most highly recommended indeed” – The Terrascopehttps://adraprojects.org/andrew-dr-abbott/https://andyabbott.bandcamp.com/album/erewyrehvehttps://andyabbott.bandcamp.com/album/dead-in-chellow-deanhttps://andyabbott.bandcamp.com/album/live-from-clover-hillhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=785d-kOcPsUFor centuries, The Farmer’s Arms saw people, goods and ideas come and go from its location at the top of the beautiful Crake Valley, on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Today, as well as a place where food, drink and a bed for the night can be found, The Farmer’s Arms is a thriving rural hub that enhances the lives of local and visitors alike."We believe in everyday creativity, and creativity everyday. It’s our mission to nurture this in everyone who works at The Farmer’s Inn and in everyone who visits us."The acquisition of this much-loved historic institution was initiated by the local community, who succeeded in mobilising a campaign to save The Farmer’s Arms at the height of the first Covid19 lockdown. The present redevelopment is led by locally-based arts organisation Grizedale Arts, following a fundraising campaign that attracted community investors and donors from all over the world to join the purchase. Working collaboratively with the inn’s local and global communities and embracing a hard-working, hands-on renovation approach, The Farmer’s Arms is once again alive, inspiring locals and visitors alike.https://lakedistrictfarmersarms.com/
