Join internationally recognized West Coast Swing professional Samantha Buckwalter for a transformative deep dive into musicality, timing, and expressive movement. This three-part series breaks musicality into simple, usable concepts that dancers can immediately apply no matter your level.
📚 Workshop Schedule
Each workshop runs 45 mins, with 15-minute breaks between sessions for dancing, practicing, and questions.
2 PM — Doors open: Workshops will start right on time! Don’t be late!
2:30 PM — Workshop 1: Intro to Phrasing & Musical Structure
Learn how songs are built and why phrasing matters. We’ll break down musical structure in a clear, dancer-friendly way so you understand where you are in the music, where the energy shifts, and how to make your dancing feel intentional and connected to the song.
3:30 PM — Workshop 2: Slow It Down & Speed It Up
Explore half-time, double-time, and timing variations that bring texture and contrast to your dance. Learn how to slow movements down or tighten them up without losing balance, control, or connection. Gain rhythmic confidence and discover new ways to express the music.
4:30 PM — Workshop 3: Dancing the Rhythm vs Dancing the Melody
Some dancers connect to the beat. Others move with the melody.
The magic happens when you can hear and style both whenever you chose. This session teaches you how to identify rhythmic vs melodic moments in a song, how to embody each one, and how to create expressive choices that make your dance feel musical, intentional, and uniquely yours.
🔥 5:30–7:30 PM: Catered Dinner from Chipotle + Fireside Q&A with Samantha
Enjoy a cozy catered dinner at the studio followed by an intimate fireside-style Q&A with Samantha. Ask anything: dance technique, musicality, styling, switching, competition mindset, career insights, community leadership, and more.
Samantha will also share some of her favorite dance moments and videos, projected on the big screen with the stories behind them.
💃 7:30 PM – Late: Social Dance Party
Finish the day by dancing all night long to music DJ’d by Madison, spinning an energetic and expressive mix perfect for West Coast Swing.
