JR. (5-12 years old) Based on the ever-popular, award-winning 1970s cartoons, this fast-paced musical teaches lessons with clever, catchy tunes. The Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning educational cartoon series and pop culture phenomenon is now the basis for one of the most fun and easily mounted musicals ever to hit the stage, Schoolhouse Rock Live! JR. A loose, revue-like structure allows for a great deal of flexibility in staging and cast size in this energetic musical, which follows Tom, a young schoolteacher, who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music. Memorable songs as "Just a Bill," "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly" and "Conjunction Junction" bring his lesson plans vividly to life. Linked above in a Google Doc are links and timestamps to four songs. "Interjections" and "Preamble" will be performed in the group audition from 12-2 pm, Auditionees will be introduced to the creative team at 12 pm, and after some information and admin processing, all will be brought together to sing the songs "Interjections" and "Preamble". Guidance and direction may be given, and then once the songs are performed with everyone at once, smaller groups from the whole will be brought onstage to audition with one or both songs (time permitting). After all people have auditioned in their small groups, a few extra people may be asked to stay for extra singing from 2-3pm. This will cover the songs "Interplanet Janet" and "Just A Bill" and possibly line readings if time permits. If you are not asked to stay from 2-3pm, never fear! All of you will be wonderful and important educators for this show with a chance to show off your smarts! The two solo songs are also vocally demanding, and the creative team may need to spend more time listening to people's vocals. The group auditions will be your time to shine and will give the creative team everything they need to cast this wonderful show.
