James Elliott went from a high-pressure career in sales to paddling his local waterways, rediscovering his love of wildlife and collecting litter in a 16-foot Canadian canoe he bought from a Brownie camp. Since then, his personal goal to clean up the River Freshney in Grimsby has grown spectacularly. As well as being out in his boat, tackling the rubbish on the river and other stretches of water in the area, he has been joined in his mission by a whole team of committed volunteers, inspires schoolchildren and others with regular talks, has found sponsors and supporters to keep the work going, and attracted an enthusiastic following online with his tell-it-how-it-is reports, videos and wonderful wildlife sightings!Join us at Banovallum House, the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust headquarters in the centre of Horncastle, to hear direct from the man himself how he became The Canoe River Cleaner (or 'that guy in the canoe'). He'll talk us through his journey, what he does and what he sees, and share photos along the way. This is a FREE event with hot drinks and light refreshments. Numbers are limited due to space, so booking is essential please. It will be an enjoyable, informal evening, with the opportunity to ask James questions and chat with other like-minded people. There is some car parking available on site at Banovallum House, or the public car parks in the centre of Horncastle are a few minutes' walk away.
