- **Event Name**: The Big Table 2026
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 13 Sep, 2026 at 05:00 pm – Sun, 13 Sep, 2026 at 07:00 pm (-04:00)
- **Event Description**: Magical things happen when we share a meal. We talk. We connect. We heal. We build community.About this EventEnough good food and enough good people can change the world.PARTICIPANTSBring a dish to share and experience the magic that happens when we connect with our neighbors. You'll sit with participants you don't know (yet), and use our Conversation Cards to listen to each other's stories. At The Big Table, there is no stage or entertainment schedule. The magic of the event is what happens right there within your table of eight. If you play an instrument, bring it! After dinner we'll have a soccer pickup game and music jam! Drum circle near the amphitheater. Instrument jam near the playground. Soccer in the open field at the center of the tables.TABLE HOSTSNow's the time to live your dream of being the host with the most! Before the event, you promise to invite eight participants to the big day. Then, as a Table Host, you will welcome participants to your table and guide the conversation that occurs with easy prompts provided by the Big Table Team. Don't be intimidated! We have designed fun and simple processes for helping strangers connect and tell stories. You will be sent Table Host facilitation instructions after you register.DONORSIn order for tickets to remain free, we must fundraise to pay the cost of a table for 2000 people. From chairs and tables to the truck they're delivered in to the forklift it takes to set them up, it requires community support to prepare a place at the table for everyone. In fact, it costs about $30,000 a year to set The Big Table. That's $15 a plate. Can you help us offset this cost by chipping in to "donate" a plate? Or maybe even a table of plates (that's 6 plates)?Donate $100 or more and get your name posted on a table for all the table guests to see. You can purchase a Donation ticket at checkout, or utilize our Paypal. Show them how much good food and good company mean to you!FAQsWho should come?Everyone! "description": "On the surface, it’s a simple potluck. The intention, however, is much deeper – hoping to create a space for Louisvillians of all beliefs and backgrounds to come together in order to connect, especially in a time when our society holds so many opposing points of view. How it works:Intentionally, there is no central stage nor entertainment schedule – the magic of this event is in what happens at the table. To foster more intimate conversation and depth of connection, participants are organized into tables of eight. Table Host volunteers help seat participants and work to ensure tables are made up of familiar and unfamiliar faces. Table Hosts facilitate conversation and storytelling during the event. A deck of conversation cards invite participants to share their stories such as “Tell about a time when you made your parents proud?” or “What is your most treasured memory?”Each participant is asked to bring a dish, fruit, dessert or non-alcoholic drink to share with at least eight people that reflects something about them, has a family story or personal significance, along with a recipe card. Tables, chairs, eating utensils and plates are provided. What happens:In just two hours people turn from strangers to friends. Additionally, after the table conversations close, the feeling of connection then transfers to the crowd at-large, and people are more open, generous and talkative than usual. When asked about the most meaningful part of the event, participants said, “Exchanging personal stories,” “Seeing the huge turnout,” “Enjoying diverse foods,” “A warm sense of community,” and “Talking with a gay man ready to adopt a child.” Some tables have continued to meet afterward, and we even learned of one couple who met at the first Big Table! We set the table for everyone to come. We each bring something unique. We all belong at The Big Table."
