The Land and Roots Workshop Series is a free, interactive, five-week educational program designed to help participants better understand heirs' property and the steps families can take to protect generational assets.Hosted through a partnership between the Louisville and Jefferson County Landbank Authority, the Office of Housing and Community Development's Vacant and Abandoned Properties (VAP) Team, and Kentucky State University, this series combines expert instruction with practical, hands-on activities to help participants navigate the often-complicated issues surrounding inherited property.Throughout the series, participants will learn about:What heirs' property is and why it mattersHow to identify legal heirs and determine ownership interestsCommon legal and title challenges affecting inherited propertyOptions for resolving ownership issues and clearing titleEstate planning and succession planning strategies to help preserve family property for future generationsAs part of the workshop, participants will work on developing their own family tree and gathering information that may be useful in understanding property ownership.
