Around here, there’s really only one suspect. 👣 MOMO. For Weekend 3 of the very first Applegate Farms Pumpkin Patch season, we’re celebrating a legend that belongs right here in our hometown. Welcome to: 🌲 MOMO & THE LEGENDS OF THE MISSISSIPPI 🌲 In the summer of 1972, reports of a large, hairy creature near Louisiana, Missouri captured attention across the country. He became known as the Missouri Monster — MOMO. More than 50 years later, people around Louisiana still know his name. Some remember when the original story happened. Some heard it from their parents or grandparents. Some believe. Some definitely don’t. And we’re not planning to settle that debate. We’re just going to have a whole lot of fun looking for him. 😂 ⸻ 👣 THE GREAT APPLEGATE MOMO HUNT Apparently, Momo has been exploring Applegate. Children can become Junior Momo Trackers and follow his trail through the farm. Pick up a Momo Tracking Card and start looking for clues. You might discover: 👣 Giant footprints 🌳 Scratches on a tree 🍎 A half-eaten apple 🪵 Broken branches 🦶 Strange tracks 🌲 A mysterious hiding place Find all the clues and complete your Momo Tracking Card to become an: 🏅 OFFICIAL APPLEGATE MOMO TRACKER But don’t get too comfortable. Because somewhere along the trail… you may actually find Momo. ⸻ 🌲 MOMO IS LOOSE ON THE FARM We’re expecting a very special guest this weekend. Momo himself. But we’re not putting him behind a table for eight hours. Momo should be spotted. You may catch him peeking around a tree. Walking along the edge of the woods. Sneaking through the pumpkin patch. Sitting beside the lake. Or disappearing just as somebody gets their camera out. We’ll have scheduled opportunities for younger children who WANT to meet Momo and take a picture. But the rest of the time? Keep watching the woods. 📸 If you catch an unexpected Momo sighting, take a picture and tag Applegate Farms! ⸻ 🔥 STORIES FROM THE SUMMER OF ’72 This is one part of the weekend we’re especially excited about. We want to hear from the people who remember Momo. Were you living in Louisiana or the surrounding area in 1972? Do you remember people talking about the sightings? Did your parents or grandparents tell you stories? Did your family go looking for Momo? Do you remember being afraid to go outside? Or do you think the whole thing was complete nonsense? 😂 We want ALL of those stories. Throughout the weekend, we’d love to have local residents, historians and storytellers share memories and stories about Momo and life along the Mississippi. Because whether Momo was a monster, a misunderstanding or simply one very good story… the story itself became part of Louisiana history. And that’s worth preserving. ⸻ 🌊 LEGENDS OF THE MISSISSIPPI Momo is the star of the weekend, but he belongs to a place with plenty of stories of its own. The Mississippi River has been carrying people—and their stories—past Louisiana for generations. We’ll incorporate local history, river folklore and storytelling throughout the weekend. Think less “monster convention” and more: 🔥 Stories around the fire 🌊 Mississippi River folklore 👣 Local legends 📖 Louisiana history 🌲 Tales about the woods 👴 Stories passed from one generation to another Some will be true. Some will be folklore. And some probably depend entirely on which grandpa is telling them. 😂 ⸻ 📖 MOMO STORYTIME Our youngest visitors don’t need a scary Momo. They need our Momo. We’ll have special storytimes during the weekend featuring a gentler version of Louisiana’s famous monster and stories inspired by life along the Mississippi. Grab a seat. Bring the kids. And meet a Momo who might be considerably more interested in friendship—and possibly cinnamon rolls—than frightening anyone. ⸻ 🎨 WEEKEND CRAFT: MAKE YOUR OWN MOMO This week’s themed craft is simple: 👣 BUILD A MOMO! Kids can create their own version of the Missouri Monster. Is he brown? Black? Purple? Does he have two eyes? Six? Does he have enormous feet? Does he wear overalls? We don’t actually know what Momo looked like… so imagination wins. Each child can give their Momo a name and take their little Missouri Monster home. ⸻ 👣 MOMO TRACK MAKING We’re also planning a hands-on activity where kids can create or stamp their own giant Momo footprint. Another mysterious creature. A considerably creepier movie. And you’re watching it outside in the dark. Good luck. 😂 The late Friday feature is intended for mature audiences.
