- **Event Description**: This year we celebrate 60 years of Christchurch Gilbert & Sullivan Society and are delighted to perform Yeomen of the Guard one of Gilbert & Sullivans most romantic and dramatic operettas. 

Some of the well known songs are "I Have a Song to Sing, O!", "A Man Who Would Woo a Fair Maid," and "Comes the Pretty Young Bride." 

It premiered at the Savoy Theatre on 3 October 1888 and ran for 423 performances. This was the eleventh collaboration of fourteen between Gilbert and Sullivan.

A Short Synopsis

The Yeomen of the Guard is set in the Tower of London during the reign of Henry VIII. It follows the story of Colonel Fairfax, wrongly imprisoned for sorcery, who is sentenced to death. His loyal yeomen, Jack Point, and a troupe of colorful characters, including the beautiful and resourceful Phoebe, become embroiled in a web of mistaken identities, love, and deception. As Fairfax's fate hangs in the balance, romantic entanglements and a twist of fate ultimately lead to his release. The opera blends humor with moments of pathos, offering both intrigue and musical delight.

The Yeomen of the Guard is directed by Cheryl Hammersley with Musical Director Adrian Dobson and additional choreography by Amy North.

Accessibility
There is step-free access into Iveshead School, and the theatre can be accessed via a lift to the lower foyer and a side door into the auditorium. There is some flat floor seating which can be removed to accommodate wheelchair users. Please let us know at the time of booking if you have any specific accessibility requirements.
