Born and raised in London, Mark received his doctorate from the University of Oxford. Before moving to Berkeley, he worked at universities in India and the UK. Mark is a social and political theorist. He uses philosophy and history to develop an interpretive theory of the human sciences. And he collaborates with empirical researchers to apply this theory to public policy, typically by decentring governance. His recent publications include Interpretive Social Science, with Jason Blakely (Oxford University Press, 2018), Life after God: An Encounter with Postmodernism (Brill, 2022), and A History of Political Science (Cambridge University Press, 2022).International House can be found here on the campus map.
