- **Event Description**: Jump on this special pop-up berry picking foray at Honey’s, highlighting one of our favorite sweet seasonal treats: wineberries! Come pick these sweet, native berries while they're ripe and ready.

Wineberries are often confused with raspberries, as they are similar in appearance and they are closely related! Both cultivated raspberries and wild wineberries are in the Rubus genus, meaning bramble. However, while raspberries are the species idaeus, wineberries are the species phoenicolasius, meaning red hairs, as their stems are covered with tiny red-toned hairs. The wineberry is native to Asia and was introduced to the United States in the late 1800s. 

The wineberry may be considered invasive in some areas, but we love our wineberries at Honey’s Harvest Farm. Wineberries have been used medicinally and according to herbalist Juliette de Baïracli Levy, wineberries (also known as wild raspberries) are more potent than cultivated ones, although all contain an active principle called Fragrine that tones the uterine muscles. She recommends the fruit and leaves as tea throughout pregnancy supporting the health of mother and baby and to ease childbirth. It also helps bring down retained afterbirth.

Come enjoy these delicious and supportive berries while they last, as they grace us with their presence for only a couple weeks or so each year. This walk is fun for the whole family!
