She earned her B.A. and M.A. in Religious Studies from California State University, Long Beach, and her Ph.D. in Women's Studies in Religion from Claremont Graduate University.She teaches Women's Studies at Compton College and Religious Studies at California State University, Long Beach. Her teaching and scholarship center questions of faith, identity, justice, Muslim women's leadership, and community.Dr. Nayawiyyah serves in a leadership role at the Women's Mosque of America, where she is helping to carry forward the vision and legacy of founder M.
