Featured poets are Molly Bendall, reading from her collection Turncoat, Jennifer Hasegawa, reading from NAOMIE ANOMIE: A Biography of Infinite Desire, and Martha Ronk, reading from CLAY bodies+matter. Reception and book signings to follow.About the AuthorsMolly Bendall is the author of six collections of poetry, including Watchful from Omnidawn Press and Under the Quick from Parlor Press. Her new collection Turncoat has just appeared from Omnidawn. Her chapbook of translations of the Egyptian-French poet Joyce Mansour came out from Toad Press (2022). Her poems have appeared in anthologies, such as American Hybrid: A Norton Anthology, Satellite Convulsions: Poems from Tin House, and Wide Awake Los Angeles. She teaches literature and creative writing at the University of Southern California. www.mollybendall.comJennifer Hasegawa is a poet and community archivist. Her latest poetry collection, "NAOMIE ANOMIE: A Biography of Infinite Desire" (Omnidawn, 2025), is an experimental poetic take on anti-memoir. Her debut collection, "La Chica's Field Guide to Banzai Living" (Omnidawn), won the Joseph Henry Jackson Literary Award and was long-listed for The Believer Book Award in Poetry. Her work has appeared in The Adroit Journal, Bamboo Ridge, Bennington Review, jubilat, takahē magazine, Tule Review, and Vallum. She was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi and currently resides in the SF Bay Area. jha.landMartha Ronk is the author of 13 books of poetry, most recently CLAY bodies+matter, focused on pottery and the intersection of self and matter (Omnidawn 2025). Transfer of Qualities was long-listed for the National Book Award; Vertigo was a National Poetry selection. She has received an NEA, residencies at Djerassi and MacDowell and is included in the Wesleyan series of 21st century poets. At Occidental College she was Professor of English and coordinator of creative writing.About Beyond Baroque is one of the United States' leading independent Literary | Arts Centers and public spaces dedicated to expanding the public's knowledge of poetry, literature and art through cultural events and community interaction. Founded in 1968 as an experimental literary magazine, Beyond Baroque is based out of the original City Hall building in Venice, California. The Center offers a diverse variety of literary and arts programming including readings and workshops. The building also houses a bookstore with a large collection of new poetry books for sale.Livestream: If you can’t join us in person the event will be livestreamed on at the scheduled time of the event. If you are tuning in this way, no ticket purchase is necessary.If you are attending in person, ticket purchase is required. Tickets will be available at the Beyond Baroque bookstore on the day of the event, but we recommend registering in advance through Eventbrite. Masks are encouraged while inside our center. Please arrive early.Event attendees are expected to behave in a respectful and considerate manner while in our space. Beyond Baroque reserves the right to remove individuals from our events, virtual or otherwise, if they are not respecting the space, staff, fellow attendees, or performers.
