Released just a few years after his breakout film Pather Panchali (1955) introduced Ray to international audiences, The Music Room marked another major artistic leap for the legendary Bengali filmmaker. It follows Biswambhar Roy (Chhabi Biswas, one of Bengali cinema's most revered actors), an aging Bengali zamindar whose unwavering devotion to music endures even as his wealth, influence, and way of life steadily disappear.
