We are super excited to be hosting our brilliant friends Rain Parade and Russ Tolman once again for a wonderful afternoon of music and friendship. In troubled times, we must stand together as a community that embraces creativity and tolerance. Doors at 330 pm. There will be food, non-alcoholic drink, and merchandise from our artists Come to see the newly renovated Wild Honey Backyard Amphitheatre! Rain Parade is a highly acclaimed neo-psychedelic band that gained notoriety as part of LA’s fabled Paisley Underground music scene in the early 1980s. The band’s signature sound combines hypnotic-melodic songwriting and 60s-inspired instrumentation with 70s punk influences and a darker lyrical approach, informed by late 20th- and early 21st-century themes.Their debut LP, (Enigma US/Demon UK, 1983), featuring the songwriting talents of founding members Matt Piucci, Steven Roback, and David Roback (Mazzy Star, Opal), is internationally recognized as a masterpiece. Jim DeRogatis, Chicago rock critic notes that their debut LP is “…among the best psychedelic LPs of any era.”The follow-up EP, (Enigma US /Demon UK, 1984), recorded after David left the band, garnered the same high praise, and its reputation has only grown since. Sid Griffin, author and leader of The Long Ryders said: “We were in the Paisley Underground with Rain Parade back in the 1980s… Explosions In The Glass Palace is and will forever be the BEST recording from a Paisley Underground band, be it us, The Dream Syndicate, The Bangles, The Three O’Clock or whomever.”Noted as an influence by the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Ride, The Stone Roses, Primal Scream, Teenage Fanclub, The Asteroid # 4, and The UK Charlatans, among many others, Rain Parade creates truly timeless music. In 2023, Rain Parade released a new LP on Label 51 Recordings, receiving accolades from fans and critics alike. Writer Mark Deming said “this is a 21st Century version of the their trademark approach, with the nocturnal melodies, the thoughtful interplay of the guitars, the starry-eyed vocals and expert harmonies, and the gently insistent rhythms coming together with the same impact they summoned in their salad days.”And they have been keeping busy since. Steven, Matt and drummer/percussionist Stephan Junca went to the UK in March of 2023 to play acoustically with their old pals Dream Syndicate, with Vicki Peterson of the Bangles subbing for regular guitarist Jason Victor. It was a smashing success. In the winter of 2024, the band hit the road with like-minded psychedelicaticians The Third Mind, a super group formed around Dave Alvin of the Blasters, Victor Krummenacher (Camper van Beethoven, Eyelids) and Jesse Sykes (Jesse Sykes and The Sweet Hereafter). On a West Coast tour from Seattle’s Crocodile Club to Los Angeles’ legendary Troubadour, to the desert around Joshua Tree, this was a musical match made in heaven, and the crowds seemed to think so as well.Upon their return, Steven and Matt hit the woodshed and came up with some new material, resulting in the 4-song EP, recorded in the same studios, with the same people and producer. It sounds even better than Last Rays. The digital single “Surprise, Surprise” dropped in December, 2024, and is now available on streaming services everywhere. And in the summer 2024, the band headed over to the Old World for 7 dates on the Continent and 6 in the UK, this time with a full complement of Paraders, storming through Scandinavia, Benelux, and the UK, wrapping up the tour at the massive Azkena Festival in Vitoria, Spain on the summer solstice.Next up, the band plans to return to the studio and complete work on a next full length LP. This, and their entire back catalog, can and will be found on Label 51 Recordings, with digital releases now and physical releases forthcoming throughout 2024 and into the Spring of 2025. Stay tuned!Russ Tolman is a singer/songwriter and recording artist who has spent several decades proving that persistence is a musical genre. A veteran of the Los Angeles roots-rock scene and head wrangler of the Paisley Underground adjacent True West, Tolman writes songs for people who like their melodies strong, their lyrics literate, and their coffee consumed, not curated. His music lives somewhere between rock, folk, and Americana—territory populated by flawed narrators, late-night realizations, and the quiet suspicion that things didn’t turn out exactly as planned, but maybe better than expected. Tolman’s latest album, STRAY, arriving in late spring 2026, finds him leaning into that perspective with conviction and a clear-eyed sense of purpose. The record features Tom Heyman (Chuck Prophet, Hiss Golden Messenger, Alejandro Escovedo) on guitar and pedal steel, adding just the right measure of ache and atmosphere. Mike Coykendall (M. Ward, She & Him) handles drums, bonhomie, and backing vocals, while San Francisco journeyman Rusty Miller fills out the picture on bass, piano, and harmonies. These players along with an extra backing voice or two bring Tolman’s songs vividly to life without stepping on the furniture. Over the years, Tolman has written, recorded, and released several albums, each one capturing a slightly older, slightly wiser version of the same songwriter still chasing the perfect line. His voice carries the lived-in authority of someone who has paid attention, taken notes, and survived the chorus. Russ Tolman continues to make music for listeners who believe great songs don’t expire, trends are optional, and honesty beats volume every time.

"description": "Wild Honey Foundation:It started with a less-than-planned, but hugely successful musical gathering of Brian Wilson super fans from Los Angeles in the rented home of Wild Honey Foundation co-founder Paul Rock in late 1993. In the fall of 1994, Wild Honey, fueled by its core team of friends: Rock, David Jenkins, and Andrew Sandoval, became a sensation when Brian Wilson delivered a super rare solo band performance Wild Honey’s second annual Wilson Celebration at the 200 seat Morgan-Wixson Theatre in Santa Monica. Big Star/Box Tops legend Alex Chilton joined the fun and funds were raised for Sweet Relief and their effort help ailing musicians. From 1994 to 2003, Wild Honey produced shows featuring the music of the Kinks, Everly Brothers, the Hollies, Pete Townshend, Harry Nilsson, Elvis Costello, and even solo music by Paul McCartney.. More funds were raised for Sweet Relief, gun control, music in the schools, cancer research, and much more. A musical family was built during these years and many of the same performers have gone on to become the core of the ensemble now known as the Wild Honey Orchestra.Following devastating cancer death of Wild Honey supporter and sometime collaborator Greg Dwinnell, Wild Honey went on an extended hiatus from 2003 until 2013. The birth of Wild Honey driving force Paul Rock’s first and only son Jacob in 2004 took him away from Wild Honey and into unchartered territory: learning how to become a parent of a boy with severe, non-verbal autism. In 2013, however, Paul brought back Wild Honey to raise funds for Jacob’s participation in the Autism Think Tank, an organization that provides online medical conferences with elite autism specialists from all disciplines. The subsequent sold-out Beatles of Sgt Pepper and Rubber Soul Show raise enough funds for 4 kids to participate in the Autism Think Tank and Wild Honey was back!Eventually settling in the Alex Theatre in 2015, Wild Honey produced 2 more sold-out Beatles events, a tribute to Big Star Third, Beach Boys 1967-1977, the Band, Buffalo Springfield, a second Kinks show, and our smash hit Lovin’ Spoonful show in February of 2020, just 2 weeks before the global covid shutdown, that featured the first reunion of surviving founders John Sebastian, Steve Boone, and Joe Butler. Through these second wave of shows, Wild Honey raised over 200,000 for the Autism Think Tank and other autism groups. Through the years, Wild Honey’s guest performers have included: John Sebastian, Steve Boone, Joe Butler of the Lovin’ Spoonful, Brian Wilson, Dave Davies, Richie Furay, Garth Hudson, Jackson Browne, Carlene Carter, Alex Chilton, the Bangles, Beach Boy Al Jardine, Micky Dolenz, Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Lenny Kaye, Al Stewart, Denny Laine, Tony Asher, Dave Gregory of XTC, Danny Hutton, Terry Reid, Chuck Negron, Matthew Sweet, Colin Hay, Dan Wilson, Dave Alvin, Jody Stephens (Big Star), the Continental Drifters, P.F. Sloan, Jon Brion, Peter Case, the Plimsouls, Victoria Williams, the Williams Brothers, Dave Alvin, the Blue Shadows, Aimee Mann, Michael Penn, Scott Miller (the Loud Family), Ann Magnuson, and many others. From 2014 onward, Wild Honey has also produced an ongoing series of backyard shows that feature many of the big show performers doing their original music, including Al Stewart, Dan Wilson, The Mekons, Melanie, members of the Bangles, and many others. Wild Honey has also begun streaming live music from its new soundproof garage studio over the past few years. As the Wild Honey Family grows we are always seeking new ways to showcase our team of amazing performers. At the same time, Wild Honey has created the George Bailey Relief fund to aid our family members in financial distress, especially in the wake of the hardships associated with the covid epidemic. Through online fundraising, Wild Honey has donated nearly $100,000 to help members of its extended musical community. This effort is ongoing and desperately needed for Wild Honey to continue.Wild Honey has also undertaken its own autism music initiative after Wild Honey’s inspiration Jacob Rock, now 20, acquired the ability to type out his thoughts and feelings and revealed that he had created UNFORGETTABLE SUNRISE, a full-blown 70-minute symphony in his head. Working from Jacob’s vivid description of the instruments, tone, and autobiographical themes, Wild Honey musical director Rob Laufer created a musical soundscape to match Jacob’s detailed vision. With help from 55 players from the USC Thornton School of Music and conductor Daniel Newman-Lessler, Wild Honey brought Sunrise to a 1000 folks at the Alex Theatre in Glendale on Sept 30.th Jacob was thrilled by the amazing live performance that matched his initial vision. The subsequent LA Times feature story and review confirmed the brilliance of the piece and sparked interest from across the globe, including the possibility of turning Jacob’s story into a Hollywood feature film. Wild Honey hopes to create a program for other Wild Honey musicians to follow in Rob’s footsteps and work with other non-verbal kids with their own musical visions inside their heads. This is the future of Wild Honey: showing the world the power of music to heal and unite people with autism and the music community.Paul Rock/Wild Honey Foundation1167 Kipling AveLos Angeles, CA, 90041Email-wildhoneyfoundation@yahoo.comWildhoneyfoundation.comInstagram PaulRock1958, UnforgettableSunrise2024Wild Foundation Group on facebook323-255-8839 landline323-273-1570"
