Every choice you make as an actor lives in your body. In this one-day intensive, you’ll discover how movement shapes character, informs emotion, and deepens performance. Forget stiff gestures or forced blocking, learn to move with clarity, purpose, and truth.
Through guided exercises and exploration, award-winning choreographer Jamie Nichols will help you unlock a physical vocabulary that expands your range as a storyteller. Whether you’re preparing for stage, screen, or auditions, this workshop will leave you more grounded, expressive, and free in your work.
No prior dance experience required. Just bring your curiosity and willingness to move!
Jamie Nichols is a celebrated dancer, choreographer, and educator with two decades leading her company, Fast Feet. A multiple Lester Horton Dance Award recipient, she’s praised for her emotionally charged and detail-rich work. Jamie brings her unique, actor-focused movement training to LACAE’s Adult Workshops, where actors learn to embody their characters with honesty and power.
"As a student of Jamie Nichols, my connection to my art form changed radically. I became grounded and present with work because of the way she helped me connect to my body. Most actors try to act from the head up; Jamie teaches you how to connect to your body and engage your soul to the work. I’ll be forever grateful to that woman for the space she offered me to grow and develop autonomy to my work."

"The woman I have become because of Jamie Nichols. I could write a whole chapter in an autobiography about Ms. Nichols. Not only is she like a mom to me, but she has also taught me how to be myself. How to be FREE within myself. How to exude confidence without saying a word. She has made me fall back in love with dancing. She has given me opportunities that I never thought I would have and has inspired me to go back to school to create a nonprofit for kids, exposing them to the arts and making them love it just as much as I do. If you know how to move, you know how to act. If you can’t be free in yourself, you can’t be free in your acting."
