This gathering will take place at El Sereno Greengrocer, where we will dive into the art of journaling and learn how to express and cherish the small moments in life. Mia will guide us through various writing prompts and exercises to help us slow down and appreciate the beauty in everyday experiences. See you there!Good to know: below are details to support your arrival & preparationPlease bring: a journal or notebook of any kind, pen or pencilAge & Language: The workshop is geared toward adults and the reading and prompts will be in English, and anyone is welcome! Kiddos are welcome to participate or tag along with their grown-ups. Folks are welcome to express in any language they want.Set-Up, Restrooms & Accessibility: The workshop will be outside in front of the Shop during a quiet time on Huntington Drive, with table and chairs. A small mic will be available and used as needed. There is a restroom available inside. Please note, the restroom and inside of the Shop are not fully ADA accessible, however we can roll furniture around to make necessary space to get around.Donations & Refunds: Mia has generously offered donations to the El Sereno Greengrocer (minus materials and eventbrite fees). Refunds are available up to 3 days before the gathering through Eventbrite (minus Eventbrite's processing fee).Bus & Parking: the Metro 179 is the nearest bus stop. One bus stop is on our corner, the other direction is just kitty corner from the Greengrocer. For parking: sometimes there's street parking just in front of El Sereno Greengrocer, on Huntington Drive. There's a small rear parking lot if you turn right at the end of our building, at the laundromat. And, there's residential parking up and down Huntington Drive and around the block -- please be mindful of our neighbors!About MiaMia Nakaji Monnier is a writer, editor and crafter in Los Angeles. The daughter of a Japanese mother and a white U.S.-ian father, Mia grew up frequently moving across the country and Kyoto, Japan. She teaches journaling/memoir workshops and knitting classes.Her writing has appeared in The Boston Globe, BuzzFeed News, KCET, Los Angeles Review of Books, Shondaland, and the Washington Post. She also writes the newsletter, Following the Thread, about motherhood and art. She has worked as an editor at Guernica, Apartment Therapy, HelloGiggles, and Japanese American community newspaper The Rafu Shimpo, and she served as developmental editor for the book: The Poet and the Silk Girl: A Memoir of Love, Imprisonment, and Protest by Satsuki Ina (Heyday 2024).A Tin House Workshop alum, Mia has won the Black Warrior Review Nonfiction Contest and a Los Angeles Press Club National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Award, and received support from Idyllwild Arts, Sundress Academy for the Arts, and Catapult.
