People buy new and gently used clothes, shoes, housewares, life accessories, and furniture at very affordable prices. With the help of fundraisers, My New House allocates money to help single mothers who struggle to pay utility bills. The eligible single-parenting households benefit from receiving a year relief of gas or electricity expenses. The name \"New House\" reflects the ambition that the people we will serve will eventually have a new house and that this new house will be better than the old one. Our final goal is the development of a resource center where individuals will benefit from receiving all kinds of services such as a dental clinic, psychological assistance, a food bank, a thrift store, etc.My New House is a nonprofit organization whose mission focuses onenhancing the quality of life of individuals and families focusing mainly on the aid and struggles of single mothers by providing access to basic needs and services so that they can enjoy a life of dignity.At My New House, we work together to make a difference with a yes-minded and nurturing attitude by demonstrating empathy and welcoming individuals with hospitality, optimism, understanding, and service to empower the lives of the people we serve.My New House shareholders are comprised of 100% volunteer force. The aim of the Zorayda Mejia, founder, and CEO is to create an environment where the different members are willing to learn, to grow, to accept changes, and to make decisions in good faith of the organization and its constituents. This aim facilitates in developing an infrastructure that is in alignment with the corporate governance, promote new opportunities, and innovate.Single Mothers Research studies about families found that society progressively moves away from the traditional family structure. Nowadays, a growing number of households are sustained by one biological parent. In 2014, research conducted by Mintel, a market research provider found that 12% of the 30% of families in the United States who are not raised by traditional families are single-parent households. Moreover, single parenting families represent a risk for the development of children and affect the rest of the population. The Journal 1 – The Importance of Family Structure suggests that weak family environments are highly correlated with adverse outcomes, such as incarceration, unemployment, poverty, drug addiction, alcoholism, domestic violence, and other negative factors. Based on Zorayda’s experience as a single mother, she acknowledges that it is hard to play the role of the mother and father at the same time. “While the mother is working bringing food to the house, the child may be at home alone with no supervision,” says Zorayda. My New House helps single mothers who struggle to pay utility bills. The eligible single-parenting households benefit from receiving a year relief of gas or electricity expenses.In the fall of 2015, Los Angeles residents woke up with the shocking news that an astonishing number of people had no place to live. “The Los Angeles City Council declared a shelter crisis due to a 12 percent increase in homelessness in two years.” To help with the homeless issue, My New House has made a house for the homeless people. Every month, My New House stores away the unsold clothes and shoes. This thrift store gives a chance for homeless people to walk-in during store hours and receive a bag of free clothing, food, shoes, personal hygiene products, and other household items. Also, My New House donates the unsold items to other organizations to do their distributions in Los Angeles and Mexico."
