This event is held as a part of the the Fall of Freedom movement.Close to the coast with the pirogues fishing canoes in Senegal, we are invited to a women’s sabar circle, a joyful exchange of teasing and pleasing audience with liberating moves to drum rhythms. We see children's drum lessons, drum making and market mingling with the renowned Senegalese generosity. On Sunday morning wash day, Babacar and his dancers arrive to lead the girls through a song everybody knows. The well brings up muddy water, but the dance goes on - it is a stabilizing force. This event will also include:A Q&A with the director, moderated by editor Bill Flicker.Live Sabar dancing and drumming with Master drummer Dethie Sarr Diouf and sons, Hkadine and Youssouf Diouf.Movement activation with Erin Desmond.Admittance is free / Pay What You Can, with a $15-20 suggested donation.This event is part of the Fall of Freedom, a nationwide activation of creative resistance. Beginning November 21–22, 2025, galleries, museums, libraries, comedy clubs, theaters, and concert halls across the country will host exhibitions, performances, and public events that channel the urgency of this moment. Fall of Freedom is an open invitation to artists, creators, and communities to take part—and to celebrate the experiences, cultures, and identities that shape the fabric of our nation. .
