Hollywood, often seen as a symbol of freedom and creativity, was also an industry driven by fear, business interests, and access to foreign markets.As early as 1933, in the face of the rise of Nazism, major Hollywood studios adopted an ambiguous stance. Driven by economic and diplomatic considerations, the studios accepted censorship demands from the Nazi regime, altered films, suppressed certain stories addressing anti-Nazi or pro-Jewish material, and avoided openly condemning Hitler while Europe moved toward catastrophe.Through previously unseen archival material, the film reveals an industry torn between ideals and compromise.
