Trinidad's New Playlist (University of Pittsburgh Press) weaves through many poetic styles to uncover the heartwarming forgotten histories with American icon subjects like pop singer Dusty Springfield to Hollywood b-side movies and poets of ancient Greece and references to Silvya Plath and Bernadette Mayer in true explosive Trinidad style. Gerstler's Is This My Final Form? (Penguin Random House) explores the endless evolution and malleability of life on earth in her most curious, inventive collection to date. Aren’t we all shape-shifters? Who isn’t juggling constant transformations, conflicting roles, changing loyalties, loves, perceptions, and selves, all while being pummeled by shifting devotions, emotions, and obsessions? Reveling in these questions, Gerstler’s latest protean poetry collection includes loose sonnets, shapely praise of Mae West, the lament of an actor who can’t shed his costume, dramatic monologues, whiffs of gender slippage, a love lyric to the bride of Frankenstein, and a ten-minute play.Doors Open: 7:00 PM I Readings: 7:30 PM About the authors David Trinidad's most recent books are New Playlist and Hollywood Cemetery. His other books include Sleeping with Bashō, Digging to Wonderland: Memory Pieces, Notes on a Past Life, Peyton Place: A Haiku Soap Opera, and The Late Show. The New York Times Book Review has written that Trinidad’s “most impressive gift is an ability to dignify the dross of American life, to honor both the shrink-wrapped sentiment of the cultural artifacts he writes about and his own much more complicated emotional response to them.” Trinidad is also the editor of A Fast Life: The Collected Poems of Tim Dlugos, Punk Rock Is Cool for the End of the World: Poems and Notebooks of Ed Smith, and Divining Poets: Dickinson, an Emily Dickinson tarot deck. He lives in Los Angeles.Amy Gerstler is a writer of poetry, art criticism, journalism and plays. She has published thirteen books of poems, a children’s book and several collaborative artists books with visual artists. In 2019, she received a Foundation for Contemporary Arts CD Wright Grant. In 2018, she was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. Scattered at Sea, a book of her poems published by Penguin in 2015 was longlisted for the National Book Award. Her book Bitter Angel won a National Book Critics Circle Award.
