As a state terrorism survivor who has produced and deeply studied testimonial texts, she will elaborate on some theoretical approaches and personal insights that facilitated this task. She will also discuss how ideas like "Co/labor/action" and "discourses of solidarity" might provide listeners with the tools to engage in similar practices.?: 07:20 PMA Sandals & Swords Movie: A Trans Narrative & Higher Education LeadershipHost: Martina RamirezInfo: A key message of Spartacus, Stanley Kubrick’s 1960 epic which won four Academy Awards, is that with the proper training (cinematically, the gladiator training camp), even those considered ‘marginal’ could become supremely skilled. For 30 years, Dr. Ramirez ran a college version of gladiator camp—the Spider Lab—a space which fostered the success of STEM undergraduates, especially women and members of underrepresented groups, while seeking out new science concerning spiders. In this talk, she will share how that experience influenced both the book Happier as a Woman and her approach to leadership in higher education.?: 07:35 PMOur Hidden HistoriesHost: Désirée Zamorano Info: Désirée Zamorano will discuss her historical novel Dispossessed and explain why it's essential today that we know about the mass expulsion of Mexican Americans and Mexican nationals from Los Angeles in the 1930s.?: 07:50 PMQ&A and Discussion
