We've found that there's no better way to start the year a night chock-full of classics, rarities, remixes, samples, & more from A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Black Sheep, and the rest of the Native Tongues crew!Joining us this year is none other than certified mixtape legend J.PERIOD! Originally from Los Angeles, he moved to Brooklyn in 1999 and quickly made a name for himself on the iconic New York mixtape circuit. His unique "audio-biography" approach to his "Best of" mixtapes blends both interviews and music to create a signature sound that bridges the gap between storytelling and DJing. He's officially collaborated with a laundry list of music luminaries including Q-Tip, Nas, The Roots, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Common, Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, & more! These historic collabs not only secured him the gig of Black Thought's official tour DJ, they also catapulted him on to stages like The Roots Picnic and The Kennedy Center where he brought his aptly-titled stage show, "The Live Mixtape" to life...bringing out legendary artists to perform individual songs while mixing the entire show live!
