- **Event Name**: Berimbau: Sounds of Resilience
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 19 Jul, 2025 at 06:00 pm – Sat, 19 Jul, 2025 at 10:00 pm
- **Event Description**: From Angola to Brazil – a single string, a thousand historiesAbout this EventDexter Story, Todd Simon and Rocio Contreras present Berimbau: Sounds of Resilience. This performance celebrates the berimbau, a single-stringed bowed instrument embodying resilience through its socio-cultural resonance. Originating in Angola and flourishing in Brazil, the berimbau became central to candomblé rituals and capoeira, blending rhythm, storytelling, and survival. We honor artists like Naná Vasconcelos, Baden Powell, Gal Costa, Sérgio Mendes, Azymuth, Astrud Gilberto, Quarteto em Cy, and Tom Zé, who carried the berimbau’s voice across generations—linking Africa and the Americas through sound, memory, and cultural endurance. Journey with us as we feature an orchestrated timeline of the instrument featuring local and international musicians, dancers, vocalists, DJs and capoeira mestres. https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events9/banners/cc85b9a0-3496-11f0-9be3-8fa412d14dfd-rimg-w727-h740-dc020104-gmir.jpg ABOUT THE PRESENTERS https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events7/banners/ccbafa70-3496-11f0-9d5b-a98db4fb55f6-rimg-w737-h740-dc312a2a-gmir.jpg Rocio "Wyldeflower" ContrerasRocio "Wyldeflower" Contreras is an on-air radio host and DJ at 89.9 KCRW and dublab, as well as a creative producer and music supervisor.
