We start at Los Angeles Plaza Park, across to the west from Union Station, on the brick bench by the inlaid circular plaque "Rodriguez". I will be sitting right where the man with the walking stick is sitting in this Google Street View:

Overview: This fun and visually interesting 9 mile stairway loop, starts and ends at Los Angeles Plaza Park, across the street from Union Station and transit, and traverses many stairways, and all 12 of the DTLA pedways. The route also includes the beautiful 147 step painted Ord St stairway at the south end of Chinatown. The route also visits Pershing Square and the Los Angeles Mall, as well as a handful of cool gardens. There are nice bail-outs to transit along the way, so you can shorten the walk by using the brown lines to reach the train stations to use transit to go back to the start.

The walk divides into 3 segments:
The first 4.4 miles is a nice stair-fest to reach the Pedway Loop. The second segment is the 1.9 mile Pedway Loop in and around the Bonaventure Hotel, and the final segment is a garden heavy 2.7 mile walk back to Los Angeles Plaza Park.
Some additional restrictions for the walk:
No dogs
No hiking poles
