Safe Cities Forum 2019
USNC-UN Women's LA Chapter is collaborating with the transgender & gender non-binary community, LA County’s Deputy DA, LAPD, and social services/nonprofit organizations such as CAST, PTV, YWCA, and Bienestar on Safe Cities Forum 2019: The Transgender Urban Experience.
On January 11th, 2014 (Official Safe Cities Day), Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and former mayor of Santa Monica Pam O’Connor signed official documents recognizing the UN Women Safe Cities initiative. We invite cities and areas throughout LA County to join in signing similar proclamations and creating their own model to implement the UN Women's Safe Cities initiative highlighting women, girls, transgender people, and other marginalized groups in society.
Join us for an evening of inclusiveness starting off with an official introduction of the event's purpose and collaborators and a presentation of the UN Women Safe Cities initiative, continuing with a panel discussion on the transgender urban experience from the perspectives of different backgrounds/affiliations, and ending with an audience Q&A.
Saturday, January 12th, 2019 from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Segovia Hall at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles
929 S Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90015
- To influence targeted cities (and eventually all 88 Cities in LA County) to proclaim themselves as a Safe Cities municipality, underlining the importance of transgender/gender non-binary/gender non-conforming relationship building with law enforcement to medical clinics, businesses, etc.
- To assign a transgender community member as a collaborator for new Safe Cities locale(s) and begin a dialogue with law enforcement and women's organizations and non-transgender collaborators/organizations. We are asking cities to make a proclamation as a first step toward accountability as Santa Monica and Los Angeles have already done.
We know making a difference in the lives of women and girls is important to you. We invite you to empower women with special needs and help eliminate the harmful culture of ableism by purchasing the suggested donation ticket for $10. You will receive one free raffle ticket and one jewelry item made by a woman with special needs.
While this is a free event, we appreciate any donations you are able to make towards building greater global equity for all humans.
