Minding our Mortality Workshop: Conversations for End-of-Life Care, 15 April | Event in New York | AllEvents.in About the event Minding our Mortality Workshop: Conversations for End-of-Life Care
Hands-on workshop to practice and plan end-of-life conversations and care

About this Event

Approximately 68% of Americans say it’s important to discuss end-of-life preparations with loved ones, but only about 47% have done so. Eighty percent of Americans say they want to die at home, but only 20% actually do. Have you considered and documented the type of care you want to receive at the end of life? Do you want to practice clearly communicating your desired final wishes?

In this hands-on workshop, we will use resources from the Conversation Project and Coda Alliance to prepare and plan for conversations around end-of-life care, including tools you can take home with you.

This workshop is facilitated by Here to Honor Founder Eva Ting and Katie Benn, Clinical Nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Katie Benn has a background in public health research and has collected mosquitos in Virginia to track West Nile Virus, worked with school districts in Colorado to promote sun-safe school policies, and counseled NYC taxicab drivers on methods of improving their health and well-being. She now works at Memorial Sloan Kettering as an oncology nurse. Her interest in end-of-life has come from years of bedside nursing in a culture that remains uncomfortable discussing EOL planning. She chairs the Supportive Care Committee at MSK and has researched caregiver experiences during the transition to home hospice.
