"Hearing Is Believing" with Rachel Flowers & YMF Debut Orchestra

Rachel Flowers and the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra led by YMF Artistic & Ensembles Director, Lauren Wasynczuk, perform the world premieres of her powerful and emotionally evocative new works "Other Voices" and "Concerto for Organ and Orchestra." Rachel's compositions often start as dreams. "Other Voices" & "Concerto for Organ & Orchestra" guide the listener just like a film that seamlessly navigates the listener across a variety of styles infusing elements of classical, jazz, minimalism, and popular music. As the music unfolds, the texture grows and builds with excitement -- the music of poetry expressing boundless joy.

Multi-instrumentalist Rachel Flowers is a prolific composer and virtuosic performer who is equally proficient in classical, R&B, soul progressive and electronic genres and has performed artists such as Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones Herbie Hancock, Kieth Emerson and Rick Wakeman, to name just a few. The Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra has established a reputation for their musical excellence and boundary-pushing performances, most notably sell-out performances in L.A. and New York of Yeethoven and Yeethoven II, programs that combined and contrasted the music of Beethoven and Kanye West.

Preceding the performance will be a rare public screening of "Hearing Is Believing," a compelling documentary by award-winning filmmaker Lorenzo DeStefano that showcases Rachel's inspiring story of overcoming her loss of vision at the age of 3 months due to a condition called retinopathy which resulted from being born 15 month premature. Appearing with Rachel in the film are Grammy winners Arturo Sandoval, Stevie Wonder, Dweezil Zappa and Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Taylor Eigsti, the late progressive rock icon Keith Emerson and Hawaiian ukulele master Benny Chong.
