About the event

Longview Cotillion Spring 2026 Season
Cotillion teaches social graces, basic etiquette and fundamental skills of ballroom dancing.

About this Event

The Longview Cotillion was founded by Mrs. Charles Tomberlain in 1982 when she brought Mr. Dick Chaplin to Longview for the first time. Her granddaughter, Morgan Tomberlain-Strong, is proud to serve as this year's coordinator and maintain a relationship with Dick Chaplin Cotillions. The Chaplin Cotillions are nationally recognized and have been an institution in Dallas for over fifty years. Current Cotillions are being conducted at the Dallas Country Club, Prestonwood Country Club, Royal Oaks Country Club, Eastern Hills Country Club and others.

Mr. Joseph Cutaia and Mrs. Tomberlain-Strong, instructors for the Longview Cotillion, teach the importance of good manners at a young age. The program aims to develop social responsibility through enhancing self-confidence. Social awareness, etiquette, poise, posture, as well as traditional and current dance techniques are taught in a fun manner, with the curriculum progressing according to grade level. Individual interest is taken in each child, as each one is considered a unique gift from God. The aim is to treat each child as a blessing and to teach each one social confidence as a part of well-rounded personality development.

F.A.Q

What is cotillion?

• Cotillion is a six week course which teaches social graces, basic etiquette and the fundamental skills of ballroom dancing to young ladies and gentlemen, fourth through eighth grade.

• Through the use of various dance styles and etiquette lessons, the goal of cotillion is for each student to learn courtesy, poise and dignity.

What does my child need to wear?

• Ladies should wear a dress or a skirt and blouse to class. For safety reasons, we ask that they do not wear backless shoes or flip flops. Please do not wear casual cotton leggings under the dresses. If your daughter must wear something under the dress we prefer that it be tights or hose. Tennis shoes are not allowed except on 50s night. Please wear dress shoes.

• Gentlemen should wear suits or blazers and dress pants, ties and dress shoes. Shirts must be tucked into the pants at all times. Ties and Blazers are required for every class except 1950's and Western nights.

50's Party

• Ladies may wear poodle skirts, jeans with large white dress shirts, scarves, tennis shoes, saddle oxfords, penny loafers, letter sweaters.

• Gentlemen may wear jeans, white t-shirts, bowling-type shirts, tennis shoes, penny loafers, letter sweaters or jackets or leather jackets.

Western Party

• Ladies may wear jeans or denim western type skirts (no short skirts, please), western shirts, plaid shirts, overalls, western belts and boots. Shorts are not allowed.
