Join us for a special night with Dr. Temple Grandin on June 30th that will include a film screening, live interview, and book signing

Co-presented with Slow Food Boulder County and SOIL Boulder

In the international award-winning documentary An Open Door, a colleague describes Dr. Temple Grandin as a “rock star” for her groundbreaking contributions to animal welfare and autism advocacy.

Her influence has long been recognized—Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2010, placing her in their “Heroes” category. Most recently, in March 2025, she was honored as one of USA Today’s Women of the Year.

Dr. Grandin will appear at "An Evening with Dr. Temple Grandin." The event consists of the following sections.

  • Screening of the "An Open Door " documentary
  • In-person discussion and Q & A
  • Book signing

Note: The proceeds of this event and any donations will go towards the Temple Grandin Equine Center.

Documentary

"An Open Door" celebrates Temple Grandin's remarkable life and legacy through extensive interviews with Dr. Grandin, her colleagues, and livestock industry professionals. The film's themes include autism, the unique value and educational needs of neurodivergent people, and Dr. Grandin's ground-breaking research into animal behavior and humane livestock treatment.

About Temple Grandin

A professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University (CSU), Dr. Grandin is a prominent author and speaker on both autism and animal behavior. In her latest book, Visual Thinking, Temple Grandin explores the hidden strengths of people who think in pictures, patterns, and abstractions—offering a compelling look into the minds of visual thinkers. Her significant work on the humane treatment of livestock for slaughter has led to less stress, panic, and injury in animals.
