Where do you seek relief when you’re worn-out?  beer, chocolate, Netflix, spa days, endorphins, adrenaline, Instagram, OnlyFans, MMORPGs, reality TV, DraftKings, nine holes on the golf course, Zillow, fentanyl?

In The Big Relief, author David Zahl explores our need for relief and the response of the Christian gospel.  David looks to Johnny Cash, “The Twilight Zone,” the New York Public Library, Darrell Strawberry, Betty Crocker and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys for entry into the extraordinary world of God’s amazing grace.

For five Tuesday evenings in Lent, we’ll explore this remarkable book and its unpacking of God’s grace.  To register, please add your name to the easel at the back of the church or call the parish office (413-567-5901).  Fr. Jim has 20 copies of the book for sale, or you may order it on Amazon.

David is the founder and director of Mockingbird Ministries, a ministry that seeks to connect radical Christian grace with contemporary culture.  Along with The Big Relief, he is also the author of Seculosity: How Career, Parenting, Technology, Food, Politics, and Romance Became Our New Religion and Low Anthropology: The Unlikely Key to a Gracious View of Others (and Yourself). 

His writing has been featured in The Washington Post, Christianity Today, and The Guardian, among other venues. He and his family live in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he also serves on the staff of Christ Episcopal Church. PS - He’s also Fr. Jim’s godson.
