Since then, he has performed with Lil Armstrong, and with groups including The Louisiana Repertory Jazz Ensemble of New Orleans, The American Ragtime Orchestra, Original Salty Dogs Jazz Band, Woody Allen’s Jazz Band, and the Boston philharmonic. Lew’s recording career was launched in 1958 on RCA. He has also recorded on Delmark, Jazz & Jazz, Arbor Records, Stomp Off, GHB, and Xylophonia labels. Since 1956 and while attending Purdue University, Lew was the leader of the Original Salty Dogs Jazz Band and played extensively throughout the Midwest. When he teamed up with Mary in 1971, they moved to the East Coast to get “rich and famous.” That didn't work out(!), but in 1972, they started The Ragtime Evolution in the back of a converted diner in Darien, Connecticut. Ever since, they have continued to perform classical ragtime and traditional jazz together for public and private engagements as well as music festivals around the world. Mary was a featured ragtime pianist on the Goldenrod Showboat at the St. Louis Ragtime Festival for nearly thirty years. Together, Mary and Lew have performed in America, Europe, Australia, Russia, and Africa with their own bands as well as with others including Turk Murphy’s San Francisco Jazz Band, Preservation Hall, and Germany's Barrelhouse Jazz Band. They also have performed and recorded with their son, Jeff Green, at concerts and festivals with his band, Jeff Hamilton Green’s International Jazz & Ragtime All-Stars, based in Heidelberg, Germany. Lew and Mary bring their special brand of music to Longboat Key.
