We're an affirming, inclusive space to share your poetry, music, storytelling, or any art you want to bring to the mic. As an event run by queer and trans people of color, we're here for anyone who needs community.Swing Set is happily collaborating with Long Beach Forward and their mission to create a healthy Long Beach by building community knowledge, leadership, and power in collaboration with Long Beach residents and community organizations. LBF serves community health and safety needs and collectively builds people power for racial, economic, and social justice.LOCATION: Long Beach Forward2217 E 6th St, Long Beach, CA 90814Long Beach Forward is on the lower level of the Youth Movement and Education Center (YMEC), a tan colored, three-story ADA accessible office building located on a residential street at 2217 E 6th St. Long Beach, CA 90814. Parking is limited and we encourage walking, biking, public transportation, and carpooling. LBF's entrance is located on the western side of the building down a double ramp (follow the LBF signage for directions). There is one small doorway threshold to enter the building. Two gender neutral restrooms are located on the lower level.TIME: 7:00 p.m.Event starts at 7 p.m. Doors open early at 6:30 for open mic sign-ups. We highly suggest arriving early to secure your spot on the list.PUBLIC TRANSIT: The YMEC is accessible by Long Beach Transit routes 20’s, 90’s, and 151. Biking is encouraged, as well. Feel free to bring your bike inside the lobby for safekeeping.PARKING: Free parking is available in LBF’s satellite parking lot (at 621 Dawson Ave.) located a short block away. Limited street parking is also available. Please do not park in the lot adjacent to our office building as it does not belong to us.All parking spots at 621 Dawson are available for LBF guests EXCEPT SPOTS NUMBERED 1-6 which are reserved.SIGN-UP INFO: Sign-ups to share your work on stage start at 6:30pm, first come first serve. Simply write your name on our sign-up sheet! We recommend arriving early to reserve your spot.CHECK-IN: RSVP checks at the doorSign in at the front desk and check in with the name on your ticket.MASK POLICY: Masks are REQUIRED at this event to help protect the community against COVID, the flu, and other illnesses. Free face masks are available in the lobby courtesy of LBF and Mask Bloc Long Beach.
