AUDITION NOTICE:
TITLE: GO BACK FOR MURDER

RUN: January 10 to February 7, 2026
Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm. Special performances on Thursday and Sunday nights may be added for private parties and special events.

This is a volunteer community theater production. Non-Equity. There is no pay.

AUDITION DATES:

Open Call: Dates: Monday, November 3 and Tuesday, November 4, 2025
(Auditioners only need to come to one night of Open Call Auditions.)
Times: 7pm - 9pm
Location: Long Beach Playhouse

Callbacks: By Invitation Only.
Date: Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
Times: 7pm - 10pm

REHEARSALS:
First Read-Through: Saturday, November 7, Noon to 4 pm.
Regular Rehearsal: Starting Monday, November 10, regular rehearsals will be Monday through Thursday, 7pm -10 pm, and Saturdays, 1pm - 4 pm.
(Please see beginning rehearsal schedule for specific dates and times.)
Location: Long Beach Playhouse
NOTE: Open to working with some limited minor conflicts, but we will not be casting people with conflicts on tech dates and performances.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Bring headshot and resume.
Sides for cold readings will be provided at the auditions.
For specified roles, a British dialect is encouraged at auditions but not required. Time will be spent during rehearsals to work on the British dialect.

SHORT SYNOPSIS:
Agatha Christie turns back the clock with this unique take on a murder mystery. After receiving a letter from beyond the grave, Carla Crale believes her mother, who died in prison, was wrongly convicted of her father’s murder. In a passionate attempt to clear her mother’s name, Carla persuades those present on the day of her father’s death to return to the scene of the crime and ‘go back’ 16 years to relive their version of events.

CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:
NOTE: All roles are open to all ethnicities.
Some actors will play their characters in two different decades.
Some actors may play multiple roles.

JUSTIN FOGG (M, 25-35). Solicitor in the office of Fogg, Fogg, Bamfylde and Fogg. Sober and serious. Doting at times. (Role has a British dialect.)

CARLA LE MARCHANT (F, CANADIAN, 20-35 TO PLAY 21). Passionate, persuasive and dead set on proving her mother’s innocence. Also plays Caroline Crale, her mother.
Will also double as:
CAROLINE CRALE (F, 25-35). Married to Amyas. A formidable woman. Deeply in love with her husband, she fights to keep him. Also plays Carla Crale, her daughter. (Role has a British dialect.)

JEFF ROGERS (M, CANADIAN, 25-40). Carla’s fiancé. A slick, self-satisfied, good-looking man. Insensitive to others.
Will also double as:
AMYAS CRALE (M, 35-45). The artist. He is unashamedly self-absorbed, yet charismatic and likeable. (Role has a British dialect.)

PHILLIP BLAKE (M, 25-40 AND 40-55). Amyas Crale’s devoted friend. Self-important with traces of nervous irritability. He is very sure of himself. (Role has a British dialect.)

MEREDITH BLAKE (M, 25-40 AND 40-55). Phillip’s older brother. A sweet man. At times ineffectual and irresolute. (Role has a British dialect.)
Will also double as:
TURNBALL. (M, 60-75). Elderly clerk in the law office. Dry and reserved. (Role has a British dialect.)

ELSA GREER/LADY MELKSHAM (F, 20-30 AND 30-45). The “other” woman. Attractive and alluring. Cold at times. She knows what she wants. (Role has a British dialect.)

MISS WILLIAMS (F, 35-45 AND 50-60). The nanny. She is intelligent, reserved and quietly commanding. (Role has a British dialect.)

ANGELA WARREN (F, 30 AND 14). Caroline Crale’s half-sister. Emotionally volatile as a child. Self-assured as an adult. (Role has a British dialect.)
