Sirom + Thorn Wych at Rich Mix
November 15th

Širom is a mystical entity self-described as an "imaginary folk" act. They are currently one of the most internationally visible Slovenian bands, regularly touring Europe and beyond. Consisting of three self-taught musicians and experienced improvisers, their acoustic music ingeniously connects the dots between past and present, and takes inspiration from the realms of avant-folk, free improvisation and various global music traditions. The trio employs various techniques, practices and more than a dozen instruments, taking reference from vast libraries of ancient, new and made up sounds. With their imagination completely off the leash, Širom conjure some of the most thrilling and mysterious music of the moment.

Their latest album In the Wind of Night, Hard-Fallen Incantations Whisper is out now on Glitterbeat Records

----

Thorn Wych is a musical instrument maker and musician based in the Lancashire town of Bacup, specialising in work made from tree branches. Particular to her interest are UK native trees; so far Wych Elm, Lime, Wild Cherry, Oak, and Yew. With these unique instruments, crafted in her backyard workshop, she creates music that evokes memories of an unknown world—out of sync with time and place and beyond the boundaries of the material realm. Her pieces consist mainly of bowed string instruments, flutes and percussion, which she loops round, and grinds through pitch bending glitches and delay pedals; strange devotional songs sung in tongues, atavistic hymns and hypnotic dances in praise of our Supreme Mother, The Holy Spirit Asherah.

Thorn Wych's debut album "Aesthesis" was released on the label Hood Faire (sister label to Folklore Tapes in November 2024.)
