About this Event

Easter Egg Painting Course in Ukrainian Pysanky Wax-Resist (Batik) Technique

Easter egg painting is an old tradition, and especially in the Eastern Europe it has developed into a complex and beautiful art. Eggs symbolise new growth and new life, and for Christians the Easter eggs are symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This course comprises painting Easter eggs with traditional wax (Batik) technique. We paint with a sharp point that is dipped in hot wax and then in the end we will dip the eggs into liquid dye, after which we remove the wax and the pattern appears.

This course is suitable to total beginners but not to children under ten as we deal with hot wax. Participants will be guided through all the stages, and will end up with two or three beautiful Easter decoration.

This is a fun course and you won’t want to stop once you get going!

No prior experience is necessary - this course is open to beginners and enthusiasts alike.

Attendees will need to bring the following:

  • Pencil
  • Rubber
  • Sharpener
  • Something suitable to carry your decorated eggs home in safely!

All other equipment including brown eggs will be provided - you may wish to bring white eggs without the stamps.
