Celebrated equally within lineages of Taiwanese, auteur and slow cinema, Tsai is known for his long shots, elliptical narratives and painterly approaches to light and colour. His films explore themes of urban alienation and loneliness as they carefully tread the line between comedy and tragedy.

He joins us to present the UK premieres of recent feature films Your Face and Afternoon, a 35mm film print of Goodbye, Dragon Inn and a screening of his short films he has selected specially for the occasion. Tsai will also lead a masterclass.

This programme has been made possible thanks to the contribution of the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan, and is presented in partnership with Taiwan Film Festival.
