TRC presents: Afro-Venezuelan Music & Culture

TRC, Música Infinita & Vince Vella present a night of Afro-Venezuelan music and culture with:

Oswaldo Lares: A Sound lecture from the Venezuelan folk music archive with Guillermo Lares, Oswaldo’s youngest son and founder of ArchivO Lares, will be presenting the memoirs of his father’s investigative journeys and the musical universe he uncovered through a selection of original materials in a variety of formats compiled throughout the 60s, 70s, and 80s with the aim of sharing his own experience of discovery with the musics of a territory that has been often undervalued. http://archivolares.org/

Belén: a film screening and conversation with Director Adriana Vila Guevara. Belén, also known as "La Reina del Quitiplá", was a cocoa farmer and musician from a small Afro-Venezuelan village that, unaware of her powers, became a main inspiration for her community and for people all over the American continent. This will be the first and only screening in London. http://belen-film.com/

Live Performance: led by Venezuelan musician and vocalist Luzmira Zerpa (Family Atlantica / Soundspecies) and exploring some of the traditional rhythms of the vast musical traditions of her home country.

Afro-Venezuelan & Latin Rhythms: played by DJs Vince Vella ( https://vvrecordings.bandcamp.com/) and colectivo futuro ( http://colectivofuturo.com/)
