THE BRAINIAC 5 continue their monthly residency!
An originally Cornwall-based psychedelic punk band, who came to prominence in 1978 with the 'Mushy Doubt' EP, a favourite of DJ John Peel, the Brainiac 5 split in 1980. Reforming in 2012, they've released 3 full albums of new material to wide acclaim.
“With folk-tinged tunes, prog-psych musical chops and impassioned, street level lyrics, Brainiac 5 still sound ready for anything.” -Shindig!
MISS JESSIE PIE:
Jessie started singing on the London fetish and burlesque scene, later fronting flamboyant rhythm 'n' blues band Elephant Shelf and its three-piece jazz incarnation, The Cleavage of Death. An experienced jazz-blues singer and song-writer, her song “Exotic Creature” appears on Vimeo https://vimeo.com/77061700
and also features in Danny Bryan's spoken-word trilogy recordings, “The Chronicles of Mullengaard”.
Since January 2016 Jessie has been working with an emerging Cardiff hip-hop project, The Tone Poets. In London, she is a frequent companion to The Brainiac 5, with whom she has also worked as guest vocalist and co-writer. Something of a wild salmon in piranha territory, Jessie is keen to entertain would-be collaborators, or 'guitar-eels', whose electric spikes might punctuate her riff-hungry scales.
