The Great Easter Vigil
Holy Saturday, April 4, 2026 | 8:00 PM
St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral
472 Richmond Street, London, Ontario
The Great Easter Vigil is the most ancient and most profound celebration of the Christian year — the night when darkness gives way to light and death is overcome by life.
We begin in darkness and silence, gathering around the new fire, from which the Paschal Candle is lit. As the light spreads through the Cathedral, we hear the great story of salvation proclaimed in scripture, renew our baptismal promises, and rejoice together in the proclamation that Christ is risen.
This is a night of deep beauty and powerful symbolism — fire and water, word and sacrament, silence and song — as we keep watch and welcome the resurrection.
This year, we are honoured to welcome The Right Reverend Todd Townshend, Bishop of Huron, as presider, with The Most Reverend Shane Parker, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, preaching.
All are warmly invited to this luminous and hope-filled celebration, whether you have kept this vigil for many years or are experiencing it for the first time. Come and take your place in the great story of Easter.
This service stands at the heart of the Great Three Days and leads us from the sorrow of Good Friday into the joy of Easter morning.
