Déjeuner Sous L’Herbe by The Odes brings together the poetic genius of Ted Milton, legendary frontman of Blurt, and the idiosyncratic electronic artistry of Sam Britton, fusing avant-garde sound assemblages, free improv, experimental electronica, and expressive verse — due for 2CD / DL release via the Not Applicable label on Fri 6th Feb 2026.

For Part 1, Déjeuner Sous L’Herbe — Britton, aka Isambard Khroustaliov, provides highly idiosyncratic, propulsive electronic rhythms and assemblages of sound, throwing spanners in the clockwork, with wonky, glitchy textures, distorted pulses, and tersely funky 8-bit-backbeats, over which Milton recites his verse in weathered, expressive tones. Additionally, Milton blasts his sax, recalling the likes of Archie Shepp, Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Gilmore, even Beefheart and James Chance at their zig-zag squalliest... 

Part 2, Anti Climb Paint offers Milton’s anthology as full unaccompanied recital — thirty-five short poems balancing political fury, absurdism, and fragile beauty – Milton's voice rich, expressive, full of textural detail, quietly, intimately mountainous in its surfaces, is a standalone musical instrument. 

Defiant, intimate, and deeply expressive, The Odes channel European avant-garde and Dadaist tropes, where absurdity, improvisation, and structural play merge with contemporary forward-thinking approaches into a new, distinctive, experimental musical language. Milton is indeed a longstanding, ongoing treasure, and The Odes, coupled with Sam Britton, is the perfect vehicle for his genius.

Ted Milton (born 1943) is an English poet and musician, best known for leading experimental art rock group, Blurt.
