- **Event Description**: Join us for a relaxed Sunday afternoon at Studio 12 in Camberwell, where we introduce the art and tradition of Palestinian Tatreez.About this EventTatreez, meaning ‘embroidery’ in Arabic, is often used to refer to the Palestinian tradition of cross-stitching (also known as the ‘fallahi’ stitch) that has been practiced in Palestine and the Arab world for centuries and is an intangible part of Palestinian heritage and Palestinian women’s histories. Tatreez designs from different areas around Palestine carry a distinct symbolism and unique stories, spanning from the personal to the political.In this 3-hour workshop (open to all) you will be introduced to the basics of cross-stitching, the history and politics of tatreez, and you will discover useful educational resources to start and expand your own tatreez practice. Materials and refreshments will be provided! Beginners will be shown how to start, plan and finish a small design. If you are an experienced stitcher, please join us with your own project and experience the joy of making in community!AboutBosla Arts is an arts organisation focused on sharing and supporting artists and activists from around the world, while drawing on their work to raise awareness to the public. We do this through events, workshops, an art residency and podcast.Chris is a London-based greco-egyptian multidisciplinary artist, maker and art librarian. Her creative background originates in experimental drawing, installation and ceramics. Embroidery is a craft that has been practiced in her family for generations, and she was introduced to it at a very young age. She currently makes tatreez to fundraise for mutual aid organisations in Gaza. Her approach to teaching the tradition is heavily focused on a political and decolonial lens, aiming to make the practice inclusive and preserve its histories.
