Until 2022 I worked in St Petersburg at the Mariinsky Theatre. As for many of my compatriots, my life since then has been divided into a “before” and an “after”.Over the past years the world has gone through events that have separated people and reshaped many lives. This programme grew from a desire to reflect on such moments of rupture in history. The composers in tonight’s concert — Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Akimenko, Prokofiev and Sviridov — each lived through times when the world around them was changing dramatically.I will perform this programme together with my husband, baritone Efim Zavalny, who was also a soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre. For both of us, it is meaningful that this music will be performed at Pushkin House in London.
