- **Event Name**: SOLD OUT - Anita Berber: The Weimar Priestess of Decadence w/ Le Pustra
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 29 Aug, 2026 at 07:00 pm – Sat, 29 Aug, 2026 at 08:30 pm
- **Event Description**: Scandal. Art. Decadence. Join Le Pustra for a one-night journey into the extraordinary life and myth of Weimar dancer Anita Berber.About this Eventin Soho presents an exclusive illustrated talk with artist and Kunstfigur (art figure) Le Pustra, exploring the extraordinary life of Weimar Berlin's legendary dancer and poet Anita Berber (1899–1928).For decades, Berber's remarkable achievements and legacy were largely forgotten, until her name resurfaced with Rosa von Praunheim's 1987 cult film Anita – Tänze des Lasters (Anita – Dances of Vice), inspiring a new generation of artists, dancers, fashion designers, historians—and desperate wannabees.Branded everything from femme fatale to the "Priestess of Debauchery," Berber was, in truth, the embodiment of the Neue Frau (New Woman) of the early Weimar Republic. Still a teenager, she became perhaps the most celebrated and provocative nude dancer of her era, achieving international fame entirely on her own terms. Her daring performances, striking style, and outrageous exploits made her a tabloid sensation, but over time the facts became blurred by exaggeration, myth, and outright fabrication.Today, Berber is still surrounded by sensational stories—of lovers, drugs, and scandal, from alleged affairs with Magnus Hirschfeld and Marlene Dietrich to insulting the King of Yugoslavia and serving six weeks in Pr*son. Separating fact from fiction is no easy task. But then, we all love a good scandal. So was Anita simply the demonic Lolita of popular legend? Absolutely not. By her mid-twenties she was an acclaimed dancer, silent-film actress, hat model, poet, and artists' muse—a fearless bon vivant who lived unapologetically until her untimely death at Bethanien Krankenhaus in Kreuzberg in 1928. Her legacy endures, not least through Otto Dix's celebrated 1925 portrait, currently on display at Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie until 3 January 2027.For one night only, step back into the decadent world of 1920s Berlin with Le Pustra and discover Anita Berber not as a scandalous myth, but as a true provocateur, innovator, and uncompromising New Woman of the dirty, jazz-infused Weimar Republic. This excusive event shall conclude with a short performance and Q&A.DOORS: 6:30PM / SHOW: 7:00PMNO PHOTOS OR RECORDINGLIMTED TICKETS AVAILABLE. NO REFUNDS.About Le PustraLe Pustra is an enigmatic self-styled kunstfigur (art figure), performer, creative director, writer, and lecturer whose work has made him a defining figure of Berlin's contemporary cabaret and avant-garde arts scene. Over the past two decades, he has evolved from underground variety performer into an internationally recognised subcultural icon, celebrated for his distinctive visual aesthetic and innovative approach to performance. He is best known for portraying the sinister Edwina Morell in Babylon Berlin (Seasons 3 and 4) and will reprise the role in the series' fifth and final season, due for release in late 2026.His work is characterised by a haunting silent-film aesthetic, immersive productions, and a blend of cinematic gothic glamour, dark humour, and the provocative spirit of Weimar cabaret. At its centre is Le Pustra's Kabarett der Namenlosen, the cult production that established his reputation and ultimately led to his television debut in Babylon Berlin.Beyond the stage, Le Pustra performs with Germany's renowned Moka Efti Orchestra at venues including the Berliner Philharmonie, Leipzig's Gewandhaus, and Hamburg's Laeiszhalle, and has collaborated with institutions including the Goethe-Institut, Humboldt University Berlin, UCLA, Morbid Anatomy, and the Australian National University. His work has also attracted scholarly attention, appearing in publications by Bloomsbury, Cambridge University Press, Routledge, and Camden House.Through his striking androgynous persona, dramatic visual style, and ongoing exploration of identity, beauty, and performance, Le Pustra continues to challenge convention and redefine the boundaries between art and life.________________________“Le Pustra can be best described as (but not limited to) an iridescent queer kunstfigur – a creation of beauty and living work of Surrealism-inspired art. From underground cabaret darling to accidental club kid-cum-avant-garde fashion muse, Le Pustra is a colorful shapeshifting conduit thriving on visual stimuli”. - Dr Anna-Sophie Jürgens, The National Australian University."Le Pustra's work radically alters conventions of beauty, glamour and sexuality"- SLEEK MAGAZINE"Morell is played with demonic campiness by contemporary performance artist Le Pustra"- Jill Suzanne Smith (The Afterlives of Weimar Berlin: Twenty-First-Century Literature, Media, and Visual Culture, 2024) https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events8/banners/21afbcc0-a35c-11f1-9988-bfc638c33a5a-rimg-w587-h740-dc080808-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events4/banners/21dfa660-a35c-11f1-9988-bfc638c33a5a-rimg-w629-h740-dc080808-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events7/banners/2208d940-a35c-11f1-9988-bfc638c33a5a-rimg-w563-h740-dcd8d8d8-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events5/banners/2235dcb0-a35c-11f1-9988-bfc638c33a5a-rimg-w589-h740-dc584848-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events1/banners/225d3ad0-a35c-11f1-9988-bfc638c33a5a-rimg-w555-h740-dce8d8b8-gmir.jpg

"description": "Le Pustra(born 1977) is an artist, actor, creative director and internationally recognised artistic figure and subcultural icon. Known for his blend of extravagance, androgyny, avant-garde creativity and melancholic beauty, Le Pustra has become an iconic figure in the contemporary European underground and art scene. Since his debut on the cabaret scene in 2006, ‘Madame’ Le Pustra has developed into a fascinating and enigmatic personality who explores the boundaries of gender and self-expression. His work combines performance, drag, visual art and gothic fashion to create a unique aesthetic that is virtually unrivalled in the modern cabaret and theatre scene in terms of mysticism and glamour. The artist's androgynous and enigmatic presence allows him to seamlessly transform into different characters and blur the boundaries of gender and identity. His visually striking and thought-provoking performances offer a glimpse into the past while challenging us to question the present moment. In the spirit of the Weimar era, Le Pustra's work is a celebration of individuality, non-conformity and the enduring power of artistic expression. The legacy of Le Pustra is a testament to the enduring power of art to break down barriers and redefine what it means to be human.Selected Credits:____Performances include: Philharmonie Berlin, Deutsches SchauspielHaus Hamburg, Prinzregententheater (Munich), Nordic Embassies (Berlin), London Fashion Week, Royal Academy of Arts London, Palais Tokyo (Paris), Wintergarten Berlin, Theater des Westens, Admiralspalast (Berlin), Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Perth Fringe Festival, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, Triple Door Theatre (Seattle), Coney Island (New York), Venice Carnival, Södra Teatern (Stockholm), Skibo Castle, (Inverness), Teatro Palladium (Rome), The Bristol Hotel and Ritz Hotel (Vienna).____Print/Publications include: British and Italian Vogue, Hunger Magazine, Vanity Fair, French Playboy, i-D, Dark Beauty Magazine, New Club Kids: London Party Fashion in the Noughties by Oggy Yordanov, What Else Is in the Teaches of Peaches by Peaches, Night Flowers by Damien Frost, Boy Story by Magnus Arrevad, Babylon Berlin Season 3 Photobook, In der Fremde: Pictures from Home by Romeo Alaeff and The Fantastic World of Atelieri O.
